This paper proposes a novel identification algorithm for a block structured model that can be used in modeling and estimation of dynamic power system loads. Well-established equations describing the dynamic load behavior form the basis of the model, and an output error model is used to account for the noise in the measurements. A polynomial NARMAX representation is used to initialize a local search routine to find the optimal model parameters. Numerical experiments with artificially created data are performed to test the performance of the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is utilized in a practical application by using field data to demonstrate its validity.
